Steel Emergency & Fire Exit Doors

Steel emergency exit doors provide secure protection during normal operation while allowing people to leave the building quickly and safely during an emergency. ACS Industrial Doors supplies and installs purpose-designed emergency escape doors for commercial, industrial, educational and public-sector buildings. The doorset can be configured around occupancy levels, security requirements, fire performance and the way users are expected to operate the exit.

Safe Emergency Egress

An emergency exit must be simple and intuitive to operate when required. Depending on the building and expected number of users, doors can incorporate push pads, panic bars or other compliant emergency escape hardware. The correct equipment should be selected according to the circumstances of the building and applicable escape requirements.

Panic Exit Hardware

Panic hardware allows the door to be released by applying pressure to a horizontal bar across the door leaf. This arrangement is particularly appropriate in locations where members of the public or large numbers of people may need to evacuate quickly.

Emergency Escape Hardware

Where users are familiar with the building and the exit arrangement, alternative emergency escape hardware may be suitable. These systems provide fast egress while allowing the external side of the door to remain secure against unauthorised entry.

External Security

Although an emergency exit must allow people to leave safely, it should not create an unnecessary weakness in the building perimeter. High-quality steel construction and appropriately specified external locking or security equipment can provide protection against unauthorised entry while maintaining unrestricted escape from inside.

Fire Rated Emergency Exits

Where the opening also forms part of a fire compartment, a certified fire-rated emergency exit doorset may be required. Fire performance, panic hardware, closers, glazing and all other components must be compatible with the tested doorset specification.

Security Rated Emergency Exits

Selected systems can also combine emergency escape functionality with enhanced security ratings such as PAS 24 or LPS 1175. This can be particularly useful for schools, warehouses, infrastructure sites and commercial premises where the external perimeter requires additional protection.

Alarm & Access Integration

Emergency exit doors can be fitted with monitored contacts, local alarms or integrated security systems where unauthorised opening needs to be detected. Where required, ACS Industrial Doors can integrate the doorset with wider access control and building security equipment.
